These are part of a small series that I did for a project in one of my photography classes at UNCG. The assignment was to choose a type of photography you’ve never attempted before, or have and maybe failed. Since I’ve never used studio equipment I set out to make portraits. Standard portraits are lovely in their own right, but I wanted to do something a little cheeky. Then the idea of having people put scotch tape all over their face came to mind.
I tend to be very minimal with any kind of art project so the details have to be as perfect as I can get them. I’m not sure if it was beginners luck or what, but the exposures and focus were all nailed on first try. These shots are straight from the camera (an old Canon 350D at that) with very little adjustments to the contrast and sharpness. Oh, and some spots removed because my sensor is embarrassingly dirty. I’ve never used lighting equipment before and now I never want to shoot without it.
Details: Canon 350D, 50mm prime, 1/125, f/7.1 at ISO 100. Handheld with two AlienBees strobes and umbrellas.
They were processed in Lightroom 4 and printed on exhibition fiber paper at 12”x18” using an Epson 7900 aka John Candy. Facetape - University of North Carolina Greensboro
